About Our Owner and President

Born and raised in Urbana, Illinois, Kurt Salmon grew up surrounded by fields of soybeans and corn but increasingly became interested in construction through his father, Gene Salmon, who owned Cross Construction while Kurt was growing up. Kurt received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and a Certificate in Business Administration from the University of Illinois and worked for IDOT following graduation. In 1996 Kurt brought his experience to Cross and soon became Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer. In 2003 he was named President of the company and was allowed to purchase 10% of the company. In 2006 Kurt was able to purchase the remaining shares to become the sole owner of the company.

Kurt lives in Champaign with his wife, Julie, and his daughters, Taylor and Hailey. He is committed to helping the community at home and the disenfranchised in other parts of the world and, as a result, is heavily invested in several charitable and faith-based organizations. In addition, he is actively involved in his church, First Christian of Champaign, and Judah Christian School. Kurt is also a member of Young Presidents Organization (YPO) and Pinnacle Forum.
